b'Letter to Our StakeholdersThe world around us has changed significantly since we began preparing our 2020 Annual Report summarizing our 2019 accomplishments. Today we are navigating a global health crisis and its economic impact, and events continue to unfold. While most of this annual report focuses on the work Cone Health completed in 2019before the coronavirus so deeply impacted us allwe also want to share how we have cared for our communities even during these most challenging of times. We were fortunate at Cone Health to have just opened the Womens & Childrens Center at Moses Cone Hospital when the pandemic began. This allowed us to repurpose our vacated hospital on Green Valley Road to a COVID-only inpatient care facility. Specially trained staff at this new COVID hospital have cared for 968 patients between March and September, despite challenging circumstances and often at great personal sacrifice. Having this site enabled our staff to safely treat more patients, while using less PPE and reducing possibilities of COVID exposures on other campuses. We also decided early that we needed to take COVID testing directly to our communities, through mobile testing clinics particularly in underserved areas. This has helped to reduce racial disparities in care, which unfortunately have been evident in the number of COVID cases and deaths nationwide. All of this is part of our promise to all those we serve: We are right here with you. We strive to fulfill this commitment every time in every interactionwhether were treating patients when theyre sick or working to keep entire communities well. No matter where you are in your health journey, you can count on Cone Health for care and support. Today, we can say with certainty that our commitment to this goal is stronger than ever before. In this annual report, we are pleased to share examples of our progress toward this vision through four areas of strategic focus: People, Culture, Patient Value, and Access and Growth. As you read these pages, we hope youll see the incredible difference our team is making for those we serve in Alamance, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, and surrounding counties. Success is always the result of a team effortin this case the collaborative work of more than 13,000 employees, 1,800 physicians, 1,200 volunteers, generous donors, and a number of strategic partners. All are deeply committed to making Cone Healths vision a reality every single day. 12'
