b'How Art Can Heal A Community One familys philanthropy lifts women up for generations to comeThe MedCenter for Women was designed with a positive patient experience in mind: the flow of the building, large windows and carefully considered paint colors. The facility also features work by local artists throughout the building. Walidah Karim-Rhoades, DNP, CNM, hopes the center will be thought of as a destination for art, with pieces that focus on women and womens issues and inspire women who may not otherwise be able to go to a museum. When visionary businessman Joseph Koury arrived in Guilford County in the 1950s, no one could imagine the real estate empire he would build or the family legacy of philanthropy he would impart to his four daughters and their families. Today, his familys gifts to the new MedCenter for Women Fund honor his spirit of giving back by supporting wraparound health services and a welcoming place for all women. As a family with many women, we share a special sisterhood bond, a common understanding of our challenges, of our responsibilities and of taking care of others, says Kelly Harrill, one of Kourys daughters. Over the years, we have received medical care from the Cone Health systemfor childbearing, cancers, mental health and other illnesses.
