This proposed move of 36 inpatient beds and two operating rooms from High Point to the northwest side of Greensboro, along with a $30M surgery center, was approved by the state in November 2022.In response, Cone Health swiftly opposed the CON, presenting a strong case at the public hearing on April 18. Engaging with partners, we ensured a balanced opposition that prioritizes the needs of consumers. With a 70-year legacy in Greensboro, theres a reputation for compassionate, high-quality care, recognized as the No. 1 hospital in North Carolina (Business North Carolina) and the No. 1 hospital in the Piedmont (U.S. News). The opposition is not just about healthcare; its about people. Firm on principles, concerns such as better value and higher quality, potential staffing issues, and the duplication of services in the proposed Greensboro Medical Center location are highlighted.Despite the states approval in August 2023, Cone Health has appealed, making our opposition known through various channels, including media reports, social media, and Op-Eds. Longtime residents Board Chair Mae Douglas and Board Member Ed Cone have voiced their concerns. As of now, Cone Health remains committed to the appeal process and dedicated to providing the best care to our community.
