Cone Health continues to advance a culture of well-being through the Well-Being Coaching Initiative. The initiative empowers nurses to prioritize their own well-being while strengthening their ability to care for others. The eight-week program combines individual coaching, group coaching, commitment partners and personalized well-being practices. Participants learn how to strengthen the relationship they have with themselves, develop resilience and make intentional decisions that improve both personal and professional fulfillment. Outcomes across multiple cohorts have demonstrated significant improvements in nurse well-being: • Reductions in burnout ranging from 35% to 47% • Stress reduction of 26% to 44% • Increases in engagement of 11% to 32% • Increases in self-leadership of 55% to 100% • Increases in self-compassion of 24% to 46% This transformative program is supported by System- wide Chief Nursing Officer Vi-Anne Antrum, DNP, RN, and developed from the research and methodology of nationally recognized nurse leader, author and speaker Diane Sieg. Erin Bull, BSN, RN and Heather Koran, MSN, RN, lead the initiative and have been instrumental in expanding the program’s reach and impact across Cone Health nursing. The success of the program has also inspired nurse-led research. Cone Health is evaluating the program’s impact with the goal of publishing outcomes that contribute to the growing evidence supporting nurse well-being initiatives. Well-Being Coaching Helps Reduce Stress and Burnout The partnership between Cone Health emergency services nurses and Guilford County EMS paramedics at the Greensboro Grasshoppers provides essential first aid and emergency medical support for fans attending baseball games and community events. Medical teams are present throughout events to respond quickly to injuries, illnesses, dehydration, falls, heat-related emergencies and other unexpected medical situations. This health care support significantly impacts the overall fan experience by increasing confidence and safety for thousands of attendees each season. In addition to emergency response, Cone Health staff promote community wellness, public health awareness and injury prevention during events. This work demonstrates a strong commitment to community engagement and public safety while strengthening trust between health care providers and residents.
